What is women’s health?

Women’s health focuses on the unique health needs of women. At CAHEP, the providers offer the health care women in underserved populations need to promote their long-term reproductive and pelvic organ health.

You benefit from education about how to care for women’s health issues, contraception, and prenatal care. The team at CAHEP takes the time to listen to you and your health needs so you feel heard and supported.

Women’s health gives you the information you need to make the best decisions for your health and body.

What women’s health services do you provide?

CAHEP offers many women’s health services, ranging from routine gynecological care to in-office cancer screenings and referrals to Inner City Health and Denver Health for prenatal care.

Visit CAHEP for:

  • Annual well-woman exams
  • Mammograms
  • Cervical cancer screenings
  • Contraceptive resources
  • Screenings for osteoporosis

Women’s health services also include evaluation of common symptoms like pelvic pain and heavy bleeding. Women who have symptoms of a urinary tract infection, such as painful urination or foul-smelling urine, can get treatment to resolve the infection.

Women who are pregnant also get the care and support they need at CAHEP. The team counsels you on the importance of prenatal care and puts you in contact with a trusted provider.

What can I expect during a women’s health care appointment?

What happens at your women’s health care appointment depends on your health needs and concerns.

If you come in for a well-woman exam, your provider asks you about your current health, performs a pelvic exam and clinical breast exam and does a Pap smear to check for abnormal cells that could suggest cervical cancer.

Contraceptive resources include counseling about the best form for you. The practice also provides prescriptions and devices, such as intrauterine devices (IUDs).

Women who have unusual symptoms, like vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, or growths on their genitals, may be referred to testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

The goal of all women’s care appointments is to help you optimize your overall health and well-being. Call Colorado Alliance for Health Equity and Practice or use the online tool to schedule an appointment today.
