On June 14, 2025, the Colorado Alliance for Health Equity and Practice (CAHEP) hosted a successful Community Health Fair at the Village Exchange Center in Aurora. The event brought together hundreds of attendees from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, reflecting CAHEP’s mission to advance health equity and improve access to culturally responsive care for underserved communities across the Denver metro area.

A Day of Free Screenings and Multilingual Care

The health fair featured free preventive screenings offered by CAHEP, including:

  • Cholesterol testing

  • Diabetes and blood sugar screening

  • Cardiovascular risk assessments

These services were provided by CAHEP’s clinical team and volunteers, many of whom are trained in multilingual and multicultural care, ensuring that participants felt respected and understood regardless of language or background.

“We believe that everyone deserves the right to know their health status, regardless of income or insurance,” said Dr. Roy J. Durbin, Family Medicine. “Events like this are critical for reaching those who may not otherwise have access to basic preventive care.”

Partnering for Health Equity

CAHEP was joined by more than ten community and healthcare organizations, including:

  • University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

  • Crea Results

  • Clínica Tepeyac

These partners helped create a robust and supportive environment, offering a range of resources and educational materials to help community members make informed health decisions.

“The turnout was incredible,” said Dr. Alok Sarwal, Executive Director of CAHEP. “People from all walks of life showed up—families, seniors, young adults—and we were ready to meet them where they are, in their language, with compassion and care.”

CAHEP’s Commitment to Community Health

As a trusted nonprofit in the Denver area, CAHEP provides year-round services that support preventive health, chronic disease management, and culturally appropriate care. The organization offers:

  • Health screenings

  • Dental Services

  • Behavioural Health Services

  • Health navigation and referrals

  • Multilingual health education and enrollment support

With a strong emphasis on community outreach, CAHEP works to eliminate barriers to healthcare by partnering with local organizations, clinics, and health professionals to bring services directly into the communities that need them most.

“Our goal is not just to treat illness but to build relationships and trust,” added Dr. Sarwal. “When people feel seen and heard, they’re more likely to take control of their health.”

A Continued Commitment

This Health Fair at the Village Exchange Center is one of many outreach initiatives CAHEP leads each year. Through partnerships, education, and compassionate care delivery, CAHEP continues to serve as a bridge between Colorado’s healthcare systems and the communities that often fall through the cracks.
